| | Modus Transportation, Inc. contracts with FedEx Ground to provide
vehicles and drivers for pickup and delivery service in certain areas of greater
Denver. We have recently expanded our fleet from step vans and straight trucks
into tractor/trailer operations. We see this as an area of growth for us in the
future. We are providing pickup and delivery services using these tractors
(and FedEx Ground trailers). The work is 75% drop and hook operation, with 25%
'true' or 'live' P&D (i.e. scanning, loading, handling packages). We will be
expanding over the next year into line haul
(OTR) operations as well.
We are currently hiring Class A CDL drivers for our new
operations. If you meet the qualifications, and like the job description (both
below), then we encourage you to apply and receive a personal interview.
In accordance with our contract, FedEx Ground must approve
all drivers before hire by Modus Transportation, Inc., but you will be an employee of
Modus Transportation, Inc., not FedEx. FedEx Ground approves drivers based on a
minimum age of 23, a clean MVR (no accidents, careless or reckless driving, or
excessive other tickets), a clean criminal history (10 years no felonies and no
person- or property-related misdemeanors) and a Department of Transportation physical and
drug-screen (paid by Modus Management).

 | Business Plan
 | Expanding from our current non-CDL equipment and drivers into
tractor/trailer operations requires some flexibility in the use of new
drivers and equipment. Schedules and vehicle usage patterns will be
expected to change repeatedly over the first three to six months as
additional operations (runs, drops, etc.) are added. The following
information is intended to make applicants aware of the possible
development path for the available position(s). |
 | The most crucial tasks include trailer drop and hook operations from
local shippers to the Henderson hub. The number and timing of these
tasks require that at least two tractors be utilized, but only allow a
window of approximately five hours to complete the trailer returns. |
 | Therefore, we will add additional work and employees as necessary and
available to maximize vehicle usage. The following types of work will be
added as the opportunity arises, over the next three to six months
(click bullet to expand):
 | Local Line Haul from Hub to Terminals (Englewood, Ft. Collins,
etc.) - drop/hook, nights |
 | Short out-of-state turns (to Cheyenne for example) - drop/hook,
nights |
 | Pickup operations currently using straight trucks - driver-load,
afternoons |
 | Delivery operations currently using straight trucks -
driver-unload, mornings |
 | Additional P&D accounts anticipated but not yet open -
driver-load, or -unload, days |
|
 | In total we hope to be operating two tractors twenty hours per day
using four full-time drivers at the end of a six month implementation
period. Additional Line Haul work (OTR) and tractors will be added after
the local work has been established. |
|
 | Duties
 | Safely operate tractors, trailers, and occasional straight trucks
between locations |
 | Exchange empty and/or full trailers and return to terminal or hub |
 | Complete required paperwork and telephone voice response check in |
 | Complete 8 to 12 trailer returns within five hour scheduling window |
 | Arrive at terminal or hub locations within deadlines |
 | Scan pickup or delivery packages with company equipment |
 | Load or unload (not both) trailers at P and D locations |
 | Follow pickup and delivery procedures |
 | Train and monitor driving skills of new Class A drivers |
 | Train new employees on procedures and methods |
|
 | Salary
 | The starting wage for the open position is $14/hour. Overtime will be
paid for any hours over 40 (50 hours per week is standard). Employees
are eligible immediately for performance-based bonuses up to 10% of
base, or non-overtime, salary (i.e. maximum weekly bonus $56 at starting
salary). |
 | At six and twelve months of employment employees will be evaluated for
compliance with various performance measures, and awarded raises of up
to - and typically - 10% of the hourly wage. Thus, 'step two' of the pay
scale, at 6 months, might be expected to be $15.40 per hours, and 'step
three', at twelve months, $16.80/hour. |
 | The starting salary is meant to be fair compensation for an employee
near the beginning of his or her career. Although the position requires
one year of experience, a successful applicant may have little
experience more than that. Nonetheless, we may choose, in exceptional
circumstances, to increase the starting 'step' to accommodate an
otherwise extraordinary employee/employer fit. |
